We’ve also selected five brand new candidates to help protect Scotland from the dangers of an unopposed Tory government at Westminster.
Meet your new SNP candidates.
Miriam Brett Orkney and Shetland
Miriam is a 25 year old Shetlander, born and bred in the Isles, and a graduate of the University of Stirling. She worked in progressive policy research, before taking up the post as the Senior Economic Advisor to the SNP Westminster Group.
She has played a vital role with the SNP at Westminster, supporting SNP MPs in exposing the economic realities of the Tories Brexit agenda. As Brexit becomes a real threat to our island communities, Miriam will be a strong voice in Westminster for Orkney and Shetland’s interests.
Jim Eadie Edinburgh South
Jim is the former MSP for Edinburgh Southern and currently works for an older people’s charity in South Edinburgh. Prior to entering politics he was the head of the APBI, the medicines industry trade body, in Scotland and also worked for the Royal College of Nursing.
As MSP for Edinburgh Southern, Jim built up a reputation for being a hard-working and highly respected campaigner who gets results – from helping to secure £20 million of taxpayer savings from the disastrous PFI contract at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary or gaining an extra £3 million support for profoundly deaf children and adults. It is now more important than ever to have elected voices like Jim to protect Scotland from an unopposed Tory government at Westminster.
David Linden Glasgow East
Originally from Cranhill, before moving to Garrowhill with his family, David is an East End lad and has been an SNP activist for over 16 years. He spent his early working life in the finance sector with Glasgow Credit Union before working on the SNP’s historic Glasgow East by-election victory in 2008. Since then David has worked for the SNP in Holyrood, Brussels and Westminster, helping SNP MSPs, MEPs and MPs deliver for their local constituencies.
Working in Westminster, David helped SNP MP Alison Thewliss expose the Tories vicious rape clause and has been helping lead the campaign against this pernicious policy. By electing voices like David to Westminster, we can continue to expose and protect Scotland from the worst Tories policies.
Mairi McAllan Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale
Mairi was brought up and schooled in Biggar before leaving to earn her degree in Scots law from University of Glasgow. She is currently trainee commercial solicitor and when not working, helps her partner Iain, run his beef and sheep farm in the Crawick Valley near Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire where they live.
An active community campaigner and a passionate advocate for rural Scotland, she is determined to play her part in safeguarding Scotland from an unopposed Tory government hell-bent on further austerity. Electing strong voices like Mairi can help protect Scotland’s schools, hospitals and pensions from unnecessary Tory cuts.
Toni Giugliano Edinburgh West
Toni was born in Italy and moved to Scotland with his family at the age seven. Growing up in the West of Scotland, he moved to Edinburgh where he graduated in European politics and French from the University of Edinburgh. He has worked for a number EU organisations in Brussels and currently works in the third sector for one of Scotland’s leading mental health charities.
In politics, he has worked as caseworker in the Scottish Parliament and assisted hundreds constituents from Edinburgh West on a wide range of issues and now wants to help support Edinburgh West again as an MP. By electing experienced voices like Toni to Westminster, the SNP can stop the Tories from negotiating away Scotland’s jobs and industries as part of their Brexit negotiations.
