Senior Parliamentary Assistant for Christine Grahame MSP (Maternity Cover)

Christine Grahame MSP is seeking a Senior Parliamentary Assistant to join her experienced team delivering an outstanding service for constituents for a one-year contract to cover maternity leave.

Tasks and duties:

  • Parliamentary support including drafting motions and preparing briefings.
  • Media support including managing the Member’s social media and press output, and monitoring local press coverage.
  • Graphic design work including drafting the Member’s newsletters and producing digital media.
  • Drafting responses to lobbying and policy enquiries.
  • Assisting with managing incoming communications.
  • Supporting the Member with constituency engagement.
  • Supporting the casework staff with casework enquiries when required.

Essential criteria:

  • Experience of working for an elected representative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Accustomed to using Microsoft Office software.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of political affairs in Scotland.
  • Experience of using graphic design software.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a small dynamic team.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing workloads and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.

Desirable criteria:

  • Knowledge of the Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale constituency.
  • Understanding of Scottish Parliament legislative and scrutiny processes.

Contract length: one year to cover maternity leave up to May 2026

Working hours: minimum 21 hours, maximum 28 per week (flexibility regarding days)

Location: working between the Scottish Parliament (minimum 2 days per week) and remotely from home

Salary: £35,500 – £40,500 FTE per annum, depending on experience
